Making Room For More!

I am writing this at probably the most outrageous hour; where most of you are half way through your dreams! If you are here the moment this is posted up, we probably have the same problem - insomnia!

There is nothing to be excited about really because I need my sleep! I'm a morning person. I enjoy hearing chirping birds, the smell of morning air and the beautiful sky. What I love most is seeing my siblings going to school or work while I have the choice to continue sleeping, watch television or do some reading and maybe lunch.

I should start lunching with my mum. Haha!

Speaking of reading, this reminds me - does any charity organisation would like to accept books and some old clothes? I am clearing lots of stuff at home before Eid because I kinda feel like a hoarder now!

I have been shopping for the past few weeks and realize that I have no real estate for new books and clothes. So I decided that I should do something about it! As a result, I have been progressively putting aside all my old books (which are still relevant) and old clothes for give away. I hope by the end of this week I am able to start digging out my old bags which are still pristine.

I don't know about you guys, I love beautiful things and I am really grateful to have them. I really, really thank God for that. Having these beautiful things though makes me not want to use them because they're too nice, and then I'd just keep them and not use them. Few years gone then I realize I have more than I need.

I have decided: I should lay out all the things that I own and start using them so much so it wears out. At least then I won't have so much guilt empowering my money with wings.

Speaking of guilt - I am really saddened by the Rohingya news. Can someone please give them food and clothes and maybe a better boat if none of them wants to take them in as refugees? We just had a yacht show and that would be a nice gesture really... Or the very least, can someone give them water? When I was young, I was totally put off by news because it's all about war, famine and crisis. Now, I read them for introspection. We need that in life to stay grounded.

I can't wait for Friday to start redecorating my house and start my training routine as usual! I am currently way behind my training so I really need to buck up and keep up with the rest. I don't want to be the one panting like man forspent while others make it look so easy. At home here, there are so many dated furniture I want to sell or throw away. Not that they're not nice, some of them just don't fit my age and style anymore...

Here's a beautiful sunset I saw last week!
Till then, muchos amor!

Dubai 2015 - Chasing For Sunrise, Literally!

I am not always late. Not when it comes to holiday and anything fun but as we came close to the end of the trip, I was so beat from going to the souk for last minute shopping - because I just wanted to get rid of my dirhams, did not want to bring home too much of it. I got back to the hotel at about 2am, thinking that I could nap till about 4am, and be on time for Burj Khalifa because we wanted to catch the sunrise. I guess my aim was higher than Burj Khalifa, I woke at 5am, only had half an hour to get ready and be there! So much for napping... Really...

You have no idea how jolted I was when I was woken up and found out it was 5am!

I ran to the toilet and suddenly became confused on what I should do first. Should I shave? Should I shower? Should I? Should I do what? I was so confused at that moment because it's like switching on a cold engine and ramp to a full speed without warming up. I was not prepared for that!

I should have just worn what I wanted to wear to Burj Khalifa, wake up and make a move to Downtown Dubai. Keyword, should have.

I grabbed whatever I need and rushed down. Thankfully the lift was fast at that hour because we were at level 30-something. With so many units in the hotel that serve up to 50 plus floors, even with 8 lifts, the average waiting time could just be 10 minutes or more. Ran to the cab - luckily the cab was already there and I took the time in cab to recollect myself because that was the most dramatic 15 minutes of my life. Laugh all you want now, it was not at all funny when it happened!

Fortunately there was no jam along the way to Burj Khalifa, we alighted from the cab and quickly ran to the entrance of At The Top. Like for once, I know the whereabouts in The Dubai Mall. Maybe that was the reason why fate brought me to the Dubai Mall no matter how much I tried to avoid going to the same place over and over again. Really got to be grateful for that!

You know, Dubai Mall is so huge you can get lost because everywhere looks the same! Especially for newbies like me when I arrived, I was not to say dwarfed but rather a little terrified knowing that a 800m tower is looming over the mall.

We were in time for our slot which we had booked - for AED250 (if I remember correctly), you get to go up to level 124 (yeah and that's only half way through the tower), about 400 meters up to have a sweeping view of Dubai. It's up to you whether you want to see the sunrise or sunset because the difference is in the direction of the sun. The reason I chose sunrise because I find it more cooling, and less crowded as compared to sunset. Same price, different timing!

The sun is crowning...
And now we are seeing it's fully headed up!
And a new day is born!

It was spectacular to see the sun peeking from the horizon in the wee hours of the morning. There were many with cool gadgets to take time lapse and stuff. While putting the camera on the tripod stand, it's interesting to read the facts and figures that were displayed around the viewing gallery. How man-hours utilized to build this mammoth? What was the name of Burj Khalifa before it was renamed? And many more...

During that hour too you get to see the first fountain show of the day. You can't really see it up close, duh, but you get to see how the city wakes up once the sun shows up. Sunrise is quite underrated because nobody wants to wake up such wee hours for it but for me, it's beautiful in a way you are up there, knowing the sun is up, overlooking everyone in the city starting their day.

I felt really lucky to be able to see the sunrise because the timing was quite limited too. I guess there was no demand for sunrise watchers or perhaps, nobody wants to wake up that early! Nevertheless, it was not only satisfying. It was experiential to rise for sunrise before people even go to work!

Stay tuned for my final Dubai update!

Pluck's First Anniversary Party

What the Pluck? It's been a year? Congratulations on your first anniversary Pluck!

If you have been working in town near Club Street or Ann Siang Hill, it may seem that you are run out of places to eat for lunch and after-hours, and Pluck is the new it place you should think of! The climb along the slopes of Club Street during the day may be a challenge because of the sweltering heat but it's going to be worth it. Why not?

Pluck's mantra is that food shouldn't be complicated to be enjoyed. They attribute a good meal to quality, offering cosmopolitan interpretations of perennial classics that are affordable, thoughtful, creative, and delicious.

The restaurant's unpretentious and comfortable identity is made for sharing - be it conversations or food – and versatile enough to take you from meetings, to just kicking back with your friends. There are certain days all you want to do is to hide in a cozy restaurant where you can snug from the afternoon sun or humid evenings!

You can always opt for the bar seats at the open-concept kitchen and strike up a friendly chat with the guys of the other side of the counter! I like that idea because I am quite picky when it comes to food, so I can see what the chef is working on. Hehe!

"Hey chef, no pickle!"

Head Chef of The Establishment Group, Chef Brandon Teo, has a refreshingly frank and creative take on the menu. He innovatively blends flavours and textures from well-sourced, quality ingredients. To top it all, this seasoned chef and a worldly traveller brings a wealth of experience and compelling flavours onto your plate through his culinary expertise.

The supposedly menu board turned photowall at the party!
Contrary to unique restaurants with a distinct menu, there are no signature favourites for this one. Be ready to be surprised on each visit!

As for me, I am more surprised to see some of my friends and made new ones! It's always fun to have your friends around! Didn't manage to take a lot of selfies because my phone was dying! I am proud it survived the entire day without charging though. Thank God for power saving mode.

Alright, till then! If you are going to ask me where the Pluck is this restaurant -

Thank you Mutants for having me!

You wouldn't date a man who wear flip flops to a Michelin Star restaurant would you? Where would you put your face! But let's not be that judgemental... Haha!

Epitome of Love Grand Opening - Celebrate Mother's Day Here!

Hello everybody! I am so grateful it's Saturday today! Okay, not really because I have been sitting at home like a tai-tai for the past few weeks, so it's a little bit like weekend every other day. Not really something to be proud of but that does not mean I am idle. I have actually been working out and helping the economy through therapy and it's called retail. Carrying tonnes of paper bags is not an easy job okay!

Jokes aside, I am grateful to attend the grand opening of Epitome of Love last Thursday at Royal Plaza on Scotts hotel. Epitome of Love is a flower exhibition in tribute to mothers. Most flowers shown are designed with a thank you story for mothers. Like for one of the displays, it's this huge champagne glass, in it are two jewels (glittering family jewel I guess? LOL!) with beautiful flowers on it. The significance of the design the designer said, is to celebrate mother's love through a champagne glass, and mothers (who drink) deserves it!

It's also alluring to see a nicely done table centrepiece done by my dear friend, Yuki! Her floral design is hard to miss because it's right on the table where people were seated waiting for cabs or just chilling. Perfect place to conquer for a group photo!

I find it really sweet that the Floral Designers Society (Singapore) is doing this at such exquisite hotel because with Carousel restaurant being one of the hot spots to go for Mother's Day celebration, the exhibit serves as a picturesque spot for memorable photos with your loved ones!

All the flowers exhibit will be on display till 10 May for public viewing. Enjoy them while they're there!

Let's just hope the pollen stays there and go nowhere else. Hah!

May 2015 - Must Watch Movies!

Before I even say hello, let's say hi to May! It's almost half a year and it's about time to look back into our 2015 new year goals checklist to make sure we are on track with our plans! Momentarily, I have been cheating fashion for furniture, cheese fries for salad (without dressing, even till today) and news feed for intellectual books. Will see how that works for me. As for now, it's been working pretty well!

Hello, by the way!

Amidst our preparation for the exam season (be it our mid-sems, mid-years, whatever), I am sure there is more to life than just burying our faces in books! Even so, we can't possibly keep track of everything that's happening around us! Like even for me, I can't possibly study for hours and let life go past just like that. Where's the meaning in that? So, I have decided to crystallize our entertainment so that we don't really have to think so much on what should we do on our 2-3 hour break from mugging!

Let's talk about movies! Especially during exam season, I just feel watching movies is the best therapy you can do to get over my stress and woes. That's the only time your mind is immersed in something that's not real; sort of a temporary escape from reality, just to give you cluttered mind a break.

The best part of this is that, you can work around your timing because you know once the movie ends, you will have to go back to study. If you're going to say, play a console game, odds are you will be too distracted to get to the next level! Where's the end to that?

I have a list of movies that I would really love to watch, and I think everyone should too! Here goes the five movies you should watch in May!

Just a word of caution though, this post may contain spoilers!

Marvel’s The Avengers : Age Of Ultron
Avengers: Age of Ultron is a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team The Avengers. I watched it last night and it was epic! If you like to watch action, something that keeps you on the edge of your seat then it's a definitely must-watch. There will probably be no end to Avengers movies but there's always something to look forward to like getting inspired to look like Captain America, or getting a free pass to have a good look at Wanda Maximoff after transformation.

The Age of Adaline
When I saw this trailer, I told myself it's a must-watch because of Blake Lively as Adaline! Like, I wasn't even paying attention to the content of the teaser! I had to watch it twice to know what were they really teasing me about! It hit me then. I want to watch this movie because I wanted to know if she will ever grow old at the end of the day? Why does she want to find out the reason she doesn't age? Does she want to find the cure to her problem?

For me, if given that longevity to live, I'd probably stop questioning and start living!

Adaline is about a young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into.

Pitch Perfect 2
Pitch Perfect 2 is an upcoming American musical comedy film, a little bit like Glee where it has a final showdown of contending teams. After a humiliating command performance at Lincoln Center, the Barden Bellas enter an international competition that no American group has ever won in order to regain their status and right to perform. I just hope the songs are catchy, upbeat and to dance for! I'm looking forward to see Fat Amy! Loving her confidence!

Hot Pursuit
Hot pursuit is about an uptight and by-the-book cop who tries to protect the outgoing widow of a drug boss as they race through Texas pursued by crooked cops and murderous gunmen.

I like action comedy like The Heat and White Chicks, and I hope Hot Pursuit will not only be as good, but better! Especially with Sofia Vergara as the villain!

Tomorrowland is a science fiction mystery film about a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor who embarks on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory.

It's so full of fantasy and very out of this world, which makes me want to watch this badly!

That's all, see you folks!
